I am an Internal Audit Director/Risk Management Executive with integrated skill and qualification in accounting (FCPA), computing (MBCS-CITP), auditing (CFSA), banking (FFIN) and regulatory compliance (FCIS). My job is to achieve proven audit results to add value, provide solutions and assist Management to achieve their corporate objectives under a risk controlled environment.

I live and practice in diverse places in the Asia Pacific area that covers countries from Japan in the north to Australia in the south, Taiwan in the east and India in the west. I was the Group Internal Auditor of the Advance bank (now merged with St. George) in Australia, the Chief Internal Auditor of the Hong Kong Mortgage Corporation (a wholly owned subsidiary of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority), and the Asia Pacific Area Audit Manager of the Chase Manhattan Bank (now known as Morgan Chase). After retirement I run my own Risk Management practice both in Australia and in Hong Kong.

In short, I have had a very satisfying and rewarding career in internal audit, but the price that I have to pay is to face the daily high work pressure. Hence, back in the sixties, I started to play Wu’s style Tai Chi Chuan under Master Kwok Hsia Jong (husband of the late Wu Yan Hsia) as some recreational therapy to maintain work leisure balance and to enhance my physical health, energy level and focus. Later I stopped the formal training because of the frequent travels that I had to make. It was not until 2005 when I visited Hong Kong and re-started fine toning and learning Tai Chi from Master Cynthia Wu Hsia Fung, sister of the Grand Master Eddie Wu Kwong Yu, with special emphasis on meditative and combative application of the art using “small circle”, “joint movements”, “chi kung”, “push hand” etc. I note that under the 5th Generation Grand Master, a formal Training Manual has been developed. The Manual sets the stardand of the 108 forms for all Wu Style players. It is also an excellent road map to new learners to know the essence of the Wu Style martial art on how to coordinate limbs and hip movement while maintaining spinal alignment.

In January 2007, I was much honoured that the Grand Master hand-picked me to be his disciple and I learned the Wu Style 54 Competition Round Form from him. I started to realize that in order to improve and progress, one must practice as much as possible, but it must be focused practice. There is no room for anything else while practicing and this focus can help you to significantly improve your health. I have deep interest in the philosophic aspect of Tai Chi as I know I can continue to practice it with advancing age. Under my influence, my wife Elaine is also a Tai Chi enthusiast.

In addition to Tai Chi, I also practice Wing Chun Chuan, the precision martial art. My other interest includes singing, yoga and line-dancing. Looking ahead, I hope that I am able to pass on some sense of pleasure that I get from practicing Tai Chi chuan to those who have similar interests. “Progress through sharing” will be my motto.
