John Ganis began his practice of Chinese internal arts in New York City in the early1970’s. Since that time he explored various martial arts and meditative practices until discovering Wu Style Tai Chi Chu’an in 1990 when he had the good fortune to meet Sifu Stephen Britt. He has studied Wu Style continuously since then first with Sifu Britt and other instructors in the Detroit Academy and also with SiKung Eddie Wu during trips to Toronto and in Seminars with SiKung in Detroit. John participated in two tours of China in 1995 and 1999 with SiKung Eddie Wu. At the conclusion of each group tour John was able to spend an extra week in Hong Kong where he attended classes with SiKung Wu Tai Sin at his personal school on Hong Kong Island. In 1995 John was accepted as a disciple of Sifu Stephen Britt. Since his passing John has continued his practice of Tai Ch Chu’an under the direction of Sifu Michael Ashmore and SiKung Eddie Wu. John is a fine art photographer and the author of two photo books on American land and environmental issues. In May of 2017 he retired from the College for Creative Studies where he taught photography for thirty-seven years. In his retirement he hopes to teach Tai Chi Chu’an in Bradenton and Sarasota Florida. |
