INTERNATIONAL WU STYLE TAI CHI CHUAN FEDERATION

Peter Harries-Jones

I have been a student of Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan at the Toronto Academy since 1993. Previously, I studied another style of Tai Chi but found that its instruction did not measure in any dimension to the depth of training, bodily discipline, and mastery of the traditional form offered at the Wu Academy. The bodily discipline of Tai Chi has also been a distinct help in achieving relaxation from stress and maintaining focus in my daily life. Becoming one of the editors of the English translation of The Gold Book was an experience that greatly enlarged my aesthetic and historical appreciation of Tai Chi.

Peter Harries-Jones was one of the founding members of Bethune College, York University. He is a cultural anthropologist who has written extensively on themes in African Studies, communication studies, and ecology from a general systems point of view. He still lectures on ecology, aesthetics and the topology of recursion.
