Sifu Genie Parker, a disciple of Grandmaster Eddie Wu Kwong Yu, is the first non-Chinese woman to take on disciples for the Wu family, and only the third person in North America to be so honored. Sifu Genie has been training Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan for over twenty-five years. She began her studies in Royal Oak, Michigan with Sifu Stephen Britt in August 1988. She started teaching as an assistant in the Royal Oak school and was among the first group of students from Michigan to become disciples of Grandmaster Eddie Wu Kwong Yu in August 1992. Sifu Genie ran the Detroit area school for many years until Sifu Britt took permanent residence in Michigan. She started her own school in Ann Arbor in November 2003, and took on her first disciples in March 2003 during a ceremony at the Ann Arbor academy, presided over by Grandmaster Eddie Wu. In 1994, 1999, and 2006 she toured Southeast Asia and China along with other students from Michigan, visiting and training with Wu family members and students at several academies. Sifu Genie focuses on the proper development and training of students from the general public in all aspects of Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan from the beginning forms to the level of international competition. In addition to her own academy, she teaches in hospital, educational, and corporate environments. She has helped coach students for the Pan-American Wushu Tournament in Toronto, and is certified as a judge by the United Wushu Federation of Ontario.
