INTERNATIONAL WU STYLE TAI CHI CHUAN FEDERATION

Cheong Weng Kit

Since 1995, I have been practicing yoga for more than 10 years and even became a part-time yoga instructor in 2003. Yoga helped significantly, but I continued to suffer from tense shoulder muscles.

On the suggestion of a friend Wong Ling Yi, I started learning Wustyle tai-chi in Mr Lau's Bishan class on Sunday after Chinese New Year in 2011. After just 1 session from Mr Sisuk Lau’s taichi class, I realized the strengths of Wu Style Taichi – the methodical detail of each step, its focus on only 1 traditional form and perfecting it and most importantly, the open sharing of so many details which I did not see in other schools of taichi.

Over the last 5 years of taichi practice, I experienced significant benefits – my shoulder aches completely disappeared, my body become much more flexible, my memory and reaction improved leaps and bounds. As I slowly understood the concepts of taichi, it became clear to me that concepts such as going with the flow were equally applicable in the workplace.

Taichi has grown to be one of my passionate hobbies. Although my progress is slow, I continue to strive to practice about 4 times a week. As I benefit greatly from Wu Style taichi, I begin to share this ancient form of martial art with my friends, colleagues and mum’s friends, explaining to them how it would benefit them in various aspects of health. I also explained to them the merits of Wu style taichi. Some have attended the sessions and I am happy to see them gain benefits.

I have benefited greatly from Wu Style taichi. I wish to express my deep appreciation to my very first teacher Mr Lau for his very patient teaching, my Shifu, Grand Master Eddie Wu who took the major step to share the key essence of Wu-style taichi. I would also like to thank all the 师叔, seniors, brothers and sisters who have guided me and taught me over the last 5 years. I hope that by becoming a disciple, I can contribute to the society where required, so that Wu Style Taichi continue to thrive and benefit mankind.
