  • Chow Chiu-Woo

Instructor, Department of Curriculum and Instruction, The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Starting from 1996, I learned Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan from Master Chan Cheong-lap. I was
much honoured to become his 19th disciple, and have learnt much from his teaching.

I am interested in the martial art and philiosophy aspects of Tai Chi Chuan. How to play Tai Chi Chuan as games in school has been my focus in recent research topic. Some articles were published in Chinese language as follow:

CHOW, Chiu-woo (1996). “The Justification of an Inclusion of Tai-chi Chuan in the School Physical Education Programmes in Hong Kong “. Journal of Physical Education and Recreation Vol.2 (1).p.p.36-40

  • Jan Lee

Together with her parents, Jan first started learning Wu style Tai Chi from Sifu OwTuck Seng (disciple of Wu Kung Yi) in Johore Bahru, Malaysia in 1964. Moving to Kuala Lumpur in the 70 s she was under the tutelage of Sifu Cheong Wah (disciple of Cheng Weng Kwong) at the Selangor Ladies Chinwoo Athletic Association who encouraged her to promote and teach Tai Chi in Australia. The highlight of 2003 was meeting up with Sifu Ow after almost 40 years, and to train under Sifu Cheong again in the Tai Chi 108 continuous form and Sabre.

When she studied at the University of NSW in Sydney, Jan and her brother E.K. Yeap started the Tai Chi Club in 1976 and taught Wu style Tai Chi and Sabre to students.

In Sydney, Jan trained under Sifu Sam Li (disciple of Ma Yueh Liang) in Wu style Tai Chi Slow and Fast forms, Push Hands, Sword, Sabre and Spear. She has also learnt the Simplified 24, the 42 Combined Competition forms and Tai Chi Fan from Dr. Paul Lam and his workshops and attended a 42 Combined Competition Form workshop taught by Prof. Kan Guixiang from Beijing.

Jan teaches to adults and senior citizens at Fitness Centres, Health Clubs and community groups. She also has classes at various high schools for staff and students sports and enrichment programs and also participates in community disability programs. She enjoys promoting Tai Chi and Qigong through short courses and special Conference Energiser sessions to corporations. Clients include AMP, Pfizer, Citibank, Attorney s General Department, Clayton Utz and Ernst and Young.

Jan is an accredited coach of the National Coaching and Accreditation Scheme, a program of the Australian Sports Commission. She is a member of the Tai Chi Association of Australia and the Australian National Tai Chi and Wushu Association.

She is grateful to her parents for giving her their continued encouragement and dedication to the Art. In March 2004 Jan and her husband Frank were honoured to be trained under Sifu Eddie Wu and organised Sifu’s inaugural Tai Chi Workshop in Sydney.

Sifu Eddie’s support, trust and encouragement has inspired her with fresh confidence and motivation to share with passion, Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan in Australia.

  • Jeff Chui

I joined the academy in Hong Kong July 2003. When I started, Tai Chi Chuan to me was a low-impact exercise that helped me flex my muscles and ligaments. To cut a long story short, I soon realized that it was a sophisticated martial art, and the benefits to ones body and soul were invaluable.

In January 2004, Sifu Eddie Wu came to the Hong Kong academy to supervise our practice. I was amazed at how much I gained through his brief but pin pointed instructions, more importantly, I admired his spirit in sharing his knowledge in Tai Chi Chuan and spreading this martial art philosophy to the people who were willing to learn.

Came October 2004, I was extremely honored to become Sifu Wu’s first batch of disciples in Hong Kong. I was not the most brilliant learner in Tai Chi Chuan, but Sifu believed it was fate that we cross our paths. I have never studied any martial arts nor dreamt of learning Tai Chi Chuan during my 14 years in Toronto, and yet I took it up in Hong Kong as my friend Eugene, now my eldest Sihing (1st Hong Kong disciple of Sifu Wu), strongly encouraged me to experience it myself.

Of my years with IBM Toronto and IBM Hong Kong since 1982, work challenges increase year after year. With the introduction of Tai Chi Chuan to my life, I came to realize it was an art which helped me on mental relaxation and physical co-ordination, a real tonic for work life balance

  • John Grubb

I studied Judo from age 10 and also karate from about 16 until 1984 when injury forced me to stop both, however during a weekend karate course the visiting instructor did some tai chi chuan and this sparked my interest in learning more. Unfortunately on the small Island on which I live there were no instructors. I subsequently went to a class for about 4 weeks in the early Nineties but what was being taught didn¡¦t inspire me. Then in 1997 I started an Adult Recreation Class for Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan which was being taken by Brian Cook. I became a Disciple 4th December 2004 and attend classes, seminars and workshops at the London Academy whenever possible.

I joined Wu's Tai Chi Chuan Academy in November 2008.  I am just treat it as a kind of sports in the beginning but I found that it is not a simple sport but the "Martial Art".  Each movement of the forms are contented its technical meaning.  It is the great treasure of the forms as the forms are including the Philosophy of personality and Chinese Psychology that made me very interesting for it.

  • Vassiliki Papadatou

I graduated from the School of Architecture, of the National Technical University of Athens in 1995 and I am a Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan instructor, certified by the International Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan Federation and the Wu Family, since February 2012.

I consider my apprenticeship in Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan, which began in 2007 at the age of 37 years in the Hellenic Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan Academy, a conscious choice for my postgraduate studies, which until then I postponed. I chose to study in this ingenious art with the seriousness and consistency required in the postgraduate studies, because not only it teaches but also it demonstrates that the efficient use of power is the product of precisely applying principles based on physics and, therefore, something accessible to everybody. At the same time, during my apprenticeship, I observed that I become more and more creative, efficient and resistant to the demands of everyday life.

I decided to become an instructor because I consider my duty to offer this valuable knowledge to other people.

Many thanks to my teacher, Chief Instructor of the Hellenic Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan Academy, Dionysis Tsetselis and to the instructors Vasileios Tsiantis, Gregory Antikian and Paris Verras, for the generosity with which they offer me their Knowledge and their support.

I feel great admiration and gratitude for the source of this ingenious and outstanding martial art, for the Wu Family. Especially I would like to express my gratitude to Grand Master Wu Kwong Yu, for the confidence he shown in me by including me in the group of instructors of our system.

I would like also to thank a lot, the President of the International Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan Federation, Jonathan Krehm for his valuable help.

The profound knowledge offered by Wu Tai Chi Chuan and the quality of life one achieves by practicing this outstanding martial art, motivates me to continue my effort.
