Together with her parents, Jan first started learning Wu style Tai Chi from Sifu OwTuck Seng (disciple of Wu Kung Yi) in Johore Bahru, Malaysia in 1964. Moving to Kuala Lumpur in the 70 s she was under the tutelage of Sifu Cheong Wah (disciple of Cheng Weng Kwong) at the Selangor Ladies Chinwoo Athletic Association who encouraged her to promote and teach Tai Chi in Australia. The highlight of 2003 was meeting up with Sifu Ow after almost 40 years, and to train under Sifu Cheong again in the Tai Chi 108 continuous form and Sabre.
When she studied at the University of NSW in Sydney, Jan and her brother E.K. Yeap started the Tai Chi Club in 1976 and taught Wu style Tai Chi and Sabre to students.
In Sydney, Jan trained under Sifu Sam Li (disciple of Ma Yueh Liang) in Wu style Tai Chi Slow and Fast forms, Push Hands, Sword, Sabre and Spear. She has also learnt the Simplified 24, the 42 Combined Competition forms and Tai Chi Fan from Dr. Paul Lam and his workshops and attended a 42 Combined Competition Form workshop taught by Prof. Kan Guixiang from Beijing.
Jan teaches to adults and senior citizens at Fitness Centres, Health Clubs and community groups. She also has classes at various high schools for staff and students sports and enrichment programs and also participates in community disability programs. She enjoys promoting Tai Chi and Qigong through short courses and special Conference Energiser sessions to corporations. Clients include AMP, Pfizer, Citibank, Attorney s General Department, Clayton Utz and Ernst and Young.
Jan is an accredited coach of the National Coaching and Accreditation Scheme, a program of the Australian Sports Commission. She is a member of the Tai Chi Association of Australia and the Australian National Tai Chi and Wushu Association.
She is grateful to her parents for giving her their continued encouragement and dedication to the Art. In March 2004 Jan and her husband Frank were honoured to be trained under Sifu Eddie Wu and organised Sifu’s inaugural Tai Chi Workshop in Sydney.
Sifu Eddie’s support, trust and encouragement has inspired her with fresh confidence and motivation to share with passion, Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan in Australia.
