John Marchewitz is a professional musician, published songwriter, and certified massage therapist. Due to congenital spinal issues, by the age of 35 he faced increasing and severe physical limitations. Through the music business, he met Sifu Stephen Britt, a 6th generation disciple of Grand Master Eddie Wu Kwong Yu. In 1989, John began training with Sifu Britt at the Tai Chi Chuan Detroit Academy. With dedicated time and effort, John's physical health began to improve. Today, the training continues to support his health and well-being. John became a 6th generation disciple of Grand Master Eddie Wu Kwong Yu in 1994. He was subsequently encouraged to teach, and received Advanced Teaching Certification from Grand Master Wu in 2004. The following year, John became a Sifu, taking on his own disciples. He is authorized to teach the complete Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan curriculum. He was certified as a Canadian Wushu Judge in 1999 and his students have participated in international competitions. John toured Asia with the Federation in 1994, 1999, 2002, and 2017. He has taught at community centers, churches, corporations, universities, hospitals, and therapy centers. He has presented classes for students with Parkinson's, multiple sclerosis, and mobility disabilities, including wheelchair users. John continues to teach and promote Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan through the Rochester Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan Institute as their chief instructor. |
