Ned Berg

Ned Berg began studying Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan in 2009 as a way to reduce stress and improve health. He discovered an extraordinary martial art, teacher, and community of practitioners. Initially training from 2009-2012, under the guidance of Sifu John Marchewitz, a 6th generation disciple, and then returning in July 2022, he continues to train with the Rochester Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan Institute.

Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan has had a profound impact on Ned’s life. Having studied Judo, Jiu-Jitsu, and a Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan in the 1990s, he found that while other martial arts can be effective, they often involve sub-optimal movements that impacted his joints and caused pain. The mechanics of Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan have improved his overall fitness and completely eliminated his lower back pain. As a martial artist, Ned appreciates that Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan generates exceptional power while being responsive, supple, and elusive to attack. His field of vision has widened, and he has been able to apply his enhanced sense of balance and looseness to prevent injury on several occasions when falling. For these reasons, he is committed to the lifelong study of Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan.

In August 2024, Ned was honored to become a disciple of Marchewitz, who is a direct disciple of Grand Master Eddie Wu Kwong Yu.

Ned has learned various hand and weapon forms, and is dedicated to learning and mastering those and additional forms. He is inspired to share his experiences with new students and future generations.
